Imagine a pig is born on a farm in the Netherlands.

Then it is driven to Spain where it is fattened...

...and finally to a slaughterhouse somewhere in Germany.

Now look what happens...

The pig is now pork. 90% of EU consumers want to know where it was born, reared and slaughtered.

With the new EU labelling rules, if you buy a cutlet you will

know where the pig was reared and slaughtered.

Still, nothing about the birthplace.

And if you buy sausages or

other ready-made pork dishes...

...you will not have the slightest clue of the pig's origin.

This is because EU laws do not require origin information on meat used in processed food.

Consumers do not want origin to disappear through the mincer.
